What Is A SIM Only Contract?
SIM only contracts allows you to change tariffs or join a network simply by changing your SIM card rather than changing your phone. This is ideal if you already have a handset you like, or you want to change your existing network or tariff.
Since no phone is supplied and you're not paying for the cost of it, you benefit from receiving more inclusive calls, texts and internet usage each month compared to contracts that come with a handset.
SIM only contracts are available on a 1 month or 12 month contract.
When you apply for any of our SIM card only packages you’ll be given everything you needed to get started quickly and easily. This includes those who are switching over to our network, reactivating an old phone, or even visiting the UK. All it takes is to pop your new SIM card into your 3G handset and you’ll be ready to go!

Getting Started With SIM Only
If you’ve already got a phone then the first step will be to make sure it isn’t currently ‘locked’. If you originally got it with a network other than 3 Mobile then you need it to be unlocked to make sure it accepts our SIM.
When you receive your new SIM card from us, just insert it into your phone then turn it on. If your phone is locked then the screen will display something like ‘blocked’, ‘barred’ or ‘SP lock’. This means your SIM is not going to work just yet, but it’s simple to get things going.
Just call up the network provider of your phone or visit them in a store. They will unlock the phone for you, though bear in mind that some may charge a small fee for this. Once your phone has been unlocked you’re good to go!
How Do I Keep My Current Number?
One of the great things about 3 Mobile SIM only deals is that you can keep your current phone number as well as your phone.
There are a few steps to take if you want to keep your old phone number when you switch to a SIM only plan:
- Call up your current network provider for a code known as a PAC or Port Authorisation Code.
- When you are ordering your new SIM from 3 Mobile, make sure you enter this PAC code as well as your current phone number.
- We will then let you know when your current number will be activated.
- Make sure to order within 30 days, as your PAC code will expire after this time and you’ll have to get a new one.
